I hear this one quite a lot – you’re worried that because someone else has already created a digital product with the same or similar idea as you, that yours will flop. It’s a totally natural fear – I get it. You don’t want to have to compete, you don’t want people to accuse you of copying and you don’t want to potentially limit the number of customers you could have. So, this episode, I’m looking at why it doesn’t matter if someone else has already created your digital product idea.

3 reasons why it doesn't matter if someone has already launched your idea
So, you’re worried that because someone else has already created a digital product with the same or similar idea as you, that yours will flop.
It’s a totally natural fear – I get it. You don’t want to have to compete, you don’t want people to accuse you of copying and you don’t want to potentially limit the number of customers you could have.
Today, I’m looking at why it doesn’t matter if someone else has already created your digital product idea.
Just because they were first, doesn’t mean they’re best
Let’s look at a non-digital product example. In the food delivery space, most of us would turn to Uber eats or Deliveroo – depending on where you live.
But, Menulog was actually the first one in this space. They came before the others, and yet they’re a lot less popular – at least here in Australia they are.
Then Uber Eats arrived and took over the food delivery scene. They executed on the idea a heck of a lot better than Menulog did.
So, just because someone else has created your idea, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to be the best person to do it or that they’ve executed it in the best way possible.
They may have already launched it, but they haven’t done it as you do
You’re unique in some way – it might sound cliche, but there’s a reason why you have attracted the audience you have. They come to you for a reason. You have some unique magic in you that nobody else has.
Just because there’s already someone out there with the same digital product idea as you, doesn’t mean you can’t do it in your own style.
For example – my podcasting course. There are a ton of podcasting courses out there already. So I took a different approach – instead of focusing on theory and lengthy training videos, I cut out the fluff and created a product that would walk people through launching a podcast step by step, without any of the frills.
And it’s obviously worked, as I’ve had over 700 people purchase it and I only launched it in October last year.
So rather than getting caught up in your idea, think about how you can deliver your idea in a unique way. What’s your unique style, philosophy, framework, personality? Any of these things can differentiate you from the others out there.
It shows there’s a market for what you’re creating
If someone has already created the same idea as you and people are buying it, well, it shows that there’s a real need for it – it shows that people are willing to spend money on it.
This is a good thing as it helps to validate your idea – it doesn’t mean you should skip validating your idea altogether, but it does count towards validating it.
My big tip: Cultivate an abundance mindset
There are SO many people out there in the world, right? So just because you’re competing for the same market with someone who has the same idea as you, doesn’t mean you’re limiting your business.
There really truly is enough room out there for everyone.
