Now I know that the title of today's blog sounds a little bit cheesy, anything is possible. It sounds like some kind of motivational quote or the tagline for an activewear brand, but I'm being serious.
When I went into 2020, I set what felt like stretch goals for me. So I set a goal of making 300,000 annual revenue in 2020. And what was really interesting was that I hit that just between January and April, which if you'd ask me at the end of 2019, I would have told you that no way was that possible. I sat down with my business coach and we ran numbers and even 300,000 felt like a huge stretch, I still had to sell a lot of products to hit that 300,000. We had a plan mapped out – I was going to sell X number of products at this price point each month, I was going to take this many clients on at this price point and that was how I was going to hit my 300,000. And that felt like a big stretch.

How your mindset is holding you back from your goals
What then happened was my business grew in a very non-linear fashion and it went from, I think it was a $10,000 a month in Feb to a $60,000 a month in March to a $300,000 a month in April. So I basically made that annual revenue goal in just one month. So if 2020 taught me anything at all, it's that literally anything is possible and that we create these rules about how our business should grow and these rules are all completely made up in our heads based on our experiences with things like a traditional career. Where we have this linear path up the ladder promotion at the end of financial year each year, bonus at the end of financial year, salary increase, it's all very predictable, very linear.
Write your own business rules
Whereas with business, you're the one writing the rules. Your business is completely brand new and with that comes the potential for anything to happen. There's no limit on how much you can earn, there's no limit on how quickly you can grow. You can have a $5,000 a month or a $10,000 a month and then the next month have a $60,000 a month. That is all possible. I had a $100,000 a year and then I had a $1,000,000 year one after the other. And I know that at the end of 2019 there was no way I'd be able to fathom that kind of growth. Absolutely no way. In my mind that would have felt completely impossible and I'm sure for most of you listening, it probably feels very unlikely and impossible for you, too.
There is no secret sauce
But let me just remind you, I'm not special. I didn't have any kind of secret sauce or magic secret that you guys don't have. I teach you all my secrets. I teach a lot of them in my podcast and this blog and the ones that I don't teach in this podcast, I teach in Launch Magic and also my A-Z Podcast Launch Plan. But really, you get to design how your business will grow and it might not happen on the timeline that you wish.
I wanted to have a million-dollar business in my first year of business. And the fact that it didn't happen on that timeline is actually a really good thing, because I look back at my first year and I was like, wow, I was not equipped to deal with the kind of growth that I've just had in the last year in that first year of business, four or five years ago.
So you can design that growth and then, this sounds so woo-woo, but let the universe take control of when it will happen and how it will happen. Because you can plan, plan, plan, but at the end of the day it's going to happen when it's supposed to happen. Literally anything is a 100% possible. It sounds so cheesy. I feel kind of icky to say it but it is so true.
