Are you enough of an expert to create a digital course? I know this is something that really holds people back from creating digital courses. They're worried that they don't know enough or that they're not enough of an expert that other people out there know more than them. And I really wanted to address this one because here's the thing, the more that you know, the more you now realize how much you don't know.

The more you know, the more you realise you don't know
When you're just starting out in something and you started learning something, you're like, yeah, I know everything about it. And then the more that you researched, the more you read, the more you learn, you realize like, oh wow, there's actually a lot that I don't know. And then after a while you learn more, you learn more, you learn more, and then you actually realize like, ah, like I'm competent, but there's still a lot that I don't know. So the fact that you are questioning whether you're enough of an expert is a really good thing. It means that you're not ignorant, you're not naive about how much of an expert you are, because you have been around in your space for long enough to know that there is still stuff that you don't know and that's good. I don't claim to know everything about launching. There is still so much, so many elements of launching that I don't know. But if I was out there being like, yeah, I know everything about launching. That would be a bit naive, right? Because it's always evolving. It's always changing.
Somebody who knows less than you is out there already teaching it
So here's the other thing, while you're out there questioning whether you know enough to create a digital course, somebody else who knows less than you is out there teaching it. That's a bit of a scary thought because if they know less than you, they might be teaching the wrong thing. They might be teaching bad tactics, bad habits, the wrong information. But the difference is that they are out there teaching it. And the next thing I wanted to point out as well, is when you're creating a digital course, you'd be surprised just how much you learn from creating your course from teaching the content because it forces you to organize your knowledge, organize your thoughts. It highlights any gaps that you have in your knowledge and then that illuminates where you need to learn a little bit more, where you need to research more to fill in those gaps so you can keep delivering more value to your students. It illuminates the path to what you need to learn to become that expert.
So even though you might not think you're enough of an expert right now, by simply organizing what you already know and organizing your thoughts, you're going to realize where those knowledge gaps are that you wouldn't otherwise realize if you didn't have that impetus to organize those thoughts.
Two signs you are enough of an expert
Now, I'm going to end with two little signs that you are enough of an expert to create a digital course.
The first sign is that you have achieved the transformation or solved the problem that you are aiming to help your students to solve or achieve you've achieved that yourself or for a friend or for a client. So if you… Let's use me as an example, right? I have achieved profitable launches myself. I've helped students to achieve profitable launches. I've helped clients to achieve profitable launches. So even though I don't know everything that I could possibly know about launching, I have achieved that transformation and I'm confident that I can help other people to achieve that transformation.
The second sign that you are enough of an expert to create it is that you have some kind of framework or process that you can take your students through. Even if you haven't actually organized that framework and put it down on paper and created it, you know that there's like some kind of process you can take somebody through to achieve that transformation or to solve that problem. And maybe creating your digital course is exactly what you need to get that process out of your head and to document it and make it happen. So there you go, chances are, you actually are enough of an expert, even if you don't think you are.
