It's probably no secret that I'm a big fan of podcasting. And I'm also a big fan of digital products. That's how I've managed to scale my business to over $1 million annual revenue pretty quickly in the grand scheme of things. Now, I am a big believer that podcasting and digital products go hand in hand. If you have a digital product, then launching a podcast is a really great way to start to build that digital product income stream and vice versa. If you have a podcast, then creating a digital product is a really great way to monetize your podcast. So let's dive a little bit deeper into why I think podcasting and digital products are a match made in online business heaven.

3 reasons why podcasting and digital products go hand in hand
Builds your authority in your niche
Podcasting is a great way to build your brand.
It's a great way to establish yourself as that authority, which when you're then launching a digital product about whatever your topic of expertise is, you already have people who know you as that person, as the go-to, as the authority in whatever it is that you do. Even if you don't feel like you're the authority, you don't feel like the expert, having that podcast makes you so much more credible, because unlike a blog, it actually has a little bit of a barrier to entry. It takes a little bit more work to start a podcast than it does to start a blog. Not everyone has a podcast, so it makes you appear a lot more credible, and that can be a really great way to build that authority for when you're launching a digital product.
Digital products allow you to monetize your podcast
Secondly, digital products are a fabulous way to monetize your podcast without you having to take on more clients, without you having to answer to advertisers and sponsors, because I mean, firstly, advertisers and sponsors have pretty stringent requirements. You are essentially their client when you're advertising their product on your podcast and you have to follow their direction.
Often, they will give you very strict creative direction, which means that you can't necessarily talk about their product in a way that you would organically talk about it. You have to talk about it how they want you to talk about it. Another drawback – advertisers don't pay that well to monetize your podcast. Unless you have a huge audience, sponsorship really isn't a viable income. It's a nice income stream to have, but unless you have a huge audience, it's really hard to build a viable business purely on sponsorship money.
Podcasting allows you to warm your audience to your digital product
And then lastly, your podcast is a great tool for nurturing someone and getting them to where they need to be, to be ready to buy your digital product from you. What do I mean by that? Well, in the lead up to the launch of a digital product, (this is something I'm teaching my Launch Magic students about at the moment) in that lead up to when you open doors where somebody can buy your digital product, they have a series of stages they need to go through to be at the point where they are ready to buy from you. It's not like you can just straightaway go out there and be like, “Hey, here's my product,” and they're going to be like, “Oh my gosh, yes, this is what I need. Take my money.” Unfortunately, that's not how it works most of the time.
I'm sure there are some exceptions, but generally, there are a series of things they need to know about themselves, about you, about your product, about the problem, your product solves.
A podcast is a great tool for sharing content around that. Plus, as I said before, it establishes you as that authority, and because you're in their ears all the time, they start to know you, like you, and trust you so that when you launch your product, they are basically there with their money being like, “Here, take my credit card.”
So those are my top 3 reasons, for why podcasters should launch digital products and why digital product creators should launch a podcast. They do clearly go hand in hand. Both of them have been game-changers for my business and I hope that they will be for yours.
