You don't have to be on social media if you don't want to be. I know, wild, right? That I would even suggest this on a blog that actually started out with me pretty much talking exclusively about social media and how to market your business using Instagram and Facebook and Pinterest and the social media platforms. Social media is nice because it does help you to reach more people. And it does help you to build new connections and new relationships, but it's not 100% essential for your business.

You don't need to be on social media for your business
As long as you are creating free content somewhere for your business, then you'll reap the benefits of content marketing. Of course you can't just create content and hope people stumble across it. You have to actively grow your content platforms, which means getting in front of other people's audiences, collaboration, media, podcasts, leveraging word of mouth, everything that gets you in front of other people's audiences. You don't need to do content marketing if you don't want to, but then you're not getting the benefits of free marketing for your business. And the only real way that you'll grow your business is through paid advertising.
Now I posted a blog recently about how there are only really two ways to grow your audience, paid ads or content marketing. And even if you think that you are growing via collaborations, there's still a huge part of content marketing in nurturing somebody from when they first come into contact with your brand, through to your social media audiences, your email list, and then to buying from you.
There's still content marketing at every single one of these touchpoints. Now to grow your audience, you have to get visible, even if it feels terrifying, you have to get in front of other people's audiences and send them back to your podcast or your blog or wherever. And even if you're running paid ads, you can't really escape the visibility because if you're running paid ads, you still are getting in front of new people. And now to benefit from content marketing, you need to be creating remarkable content. You need to be getting that remarkable content in front of the right people, and you need to be nurturing those people through to being buyers and eventually super fans. Now, I know this sounds like such a process, but it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it.
