Let's talk overcomplicating because we all do it. We all overcomplicate in our businesses and in our launches. And it's such a common issue that is holding us back from getting to that next level in our business or having that successful launch.

How to stop overcomplicating your launches
I see it quite a lot with my launch students, where they are taking a really simple problem and building it up to be this huge thing in their heads and it stops them or it holds them back from having the launches that they dream of. I get to give them feedback and I get to call them out when they're overcomplicating. And I know that not everyone has something like that. So let's look a little bit at where are you overcomplicating in your business and in your launches.
Now, I thought about this the other day. I did a little bit of an activity about where I might be overcomplicating in my business. I don't do it as much as I used to. I'm a lot more aware of when I'm overcomplicating, but I'm still prone to doing it in certain areas, especially when it comes to launches.
So a big one for me in my launches is the tech setup. Now, I like to have lots of bells and whistles, and I like to add little fancy techy things into my launches that aren't really necessary, right? I could still have a super successful launch without them. And the difference is that I would be able to delegate that to somebody in my team, rather than telling myself that I have to do it because I'm the only one who knows how to set up these fancy little bells and whistles that I don't even need.
Write down “what would it look like it if were easy?”
So something that can be a really big clue that you might be overcomplicating is if you start to feel a little bit overwhelmed. If you start to feel like, ah, there's so many things I need to do, and I don't know how to do them and do I need to do this? Do I need to do that? Oh, just take a deep breath because that's generally a clue that you are overcomplicating. And a really good exercise can be to grab a piece of paper and write down where might I be overcomplicating this right now. Write that in one column. And then on the other side, write down how would this look or what would this look like if it were easy?
So get really specific. Don't just say I'm overcomplicating my social media. Get specific on how you are overcomplicating your social media. Are you waiting for it to be perfect before you post it? Are you editing it a million times? Are you trying to create graphics that look really fancy, but take hours to make?
Think about how specifically you are overcomplicating it and then think about how you could make it easy. How you could make it easy, right? It doesn't need to be difficult for it to be good. It doesn't need to be over-complicated to be valuable, to be worthy.
I think that comes a lot from, some of us have the belief that you have to work really hard to be successful and make a lot of money and have things that are really good and nice. And yeah, you might need to work really hard, but you can also be successful and produce things that are good without spending a lot of time on them. You can do it without making it really difficult. It can be easy.
Get straight on your priorities
Another thing with overwhelm, when you notice that that comes up, it might be that you are overcomplicating because you don't have any kind of priority. You have a lot of things to do. You maybe haven't created a list and you haven't got a priority of how you need to do them.
So, a good way to do that is to write out like, okay, so what is everything that needs to be done? And in what order? Which do I need to do first? And just focus on that next thing, rather than overcomplicating the task that's happening in three months time. Just focus on that next one. You'll be able to solve the problems as you get to each task.
Another way that I overcomplicate in my business is I tend to make tasks harder than they need to be or more sophisticated than they need to be. And I will take too long doing them because I think, oh, they need to be perfect. And this then blocks my team members from doing their tasks, which doesn't give them enough time to do their tasks. So often I have to do their tasks, which adds a lot to my plate, makes me overwhelmed, stops me from being visible from doing content from all of the things that are my responsibility within the business.
For you, maybe it could be wanting everything to be perfect. Maybe it could be spending a long time trying to research all of the different online course platforms you could use, rather than just settling with one that is well known, trusted by everybody and used by most of the big people in the industry, which is Kajabi, by the way.
So I want you to write that list of things that you might currently be making more complicated than they need to be. And next to each of those things on that list, write down what would this look like if it were easy?
